Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens has seen an incredibly positive reception in the critical press for which one can only congratulate Abrams, Kasdan and Kennedy as well as the actors and all others involved. Several reviews and discussions on fan-sites however also reveal there is a lot of criticism on the lacklustre treatment of some of the deeper themes of the Star Wars hexalogy. We want to share some tidbits of Episode VIII with you that reached us through our Bothan Spy Network. Please do not read on if you don’t want to run any risk of hearing anything unofficial or anything of spoilerish nature regarding Episode VIII. We consider the source that brought us this information very reliable, although not a ‘deep insider’. Let’s say, Clone Corridor just happened to have an ear in the right place at the right time and was coincidentally looking down the right alley. We would like to make clear that we received this information across several sources, however none of them involving Lucasfilm staff or staff working on the sets or with the named actors. The Star Wars Hexology is viewed by many as a simple story about Good v.s. Evil where the notions of ‘Dark’ and ‘Light’ are considered to overlap completely with ‘Light = Good’ and ‘Dark = Evil’. However as we have seen already in our discussion of what the Star Wars narrative is in class #2 things are much more subtle than that. Surprisingly, just 24 hours before this class Religion and Star Wars were entangled in yet another way in the UK News.
