Rebels Review #2.12-#2.13: Ezra & The Force

These two episodes contained a common thread. Even though they were each highlighting backstory elements of one of the Ghost crew’s characters they were also episodes in which Ezra was exposed to a larger universe of The Force beyond what he had seen. They were episodes which increasingly dealt with Ezra’s ability to lead and with the relationship between him and Kanan. The beautiful thing however was that these developments were kept somewhat in the background of what seemed to be stories about someone else. Rebels Review #2.18: The Secret of Chopper Base

This was an awesome episode! I believe that in it’s quiet moments it hid several bombshell messages that look forward to the season’s finale next week. On the surface it seems to tell a straight forward adventure story of securing a new base. But actually it was a story of goodbye’s foreshadowing that this was the last time our Star Wars: Rebels family was together like this. This review is full of spoilers, including potential spoilers for the Season’s finale.

Rebels Review #2.13: The Protector of Concord Dawn

After our re-introduction to Leia in Episode 2.12 this Episode was going to re-connect us with some Mandalorian lore and a little of Sabine’s backstory. Sabine’s character needed to take centre stage again as it was only her episode with Hera in Season 1 that stood out for her in terms of character moments. Well, this Episode surely did that!

It’s time to say ‘Goodbye Prequel Era’

When I left the cinema on that May evening in 1983 after seeing Return of the Jedi for the 3rd time it somehow seemed clear: the Era of Star Wars was over. A tragic melancholy filled my mood as I didn’t want it to happen. When I entered the cinema on that May evening in 1999 to see The Phantom Menace I was happy I had said my  ‘goodbyes’ 16 years earlier … even when it had just been a ‘Goodbye Original Trilogy’ in the end.

Star Wars’ Forgotten Women #5: Kreia

Kreia is a character you will not find in any of the films or animation series but in the computer game Knights of the Old Republic II. Nevertheless she deserves to be discussed and mentioned along side the most beloved female characters of the Star Wars Saga. The game managed to create a tantalizing female character such as we have not encountered since, elsewhere in the Galaxy.

The Force Awakens score review (Spoiler-free!)

John Williams composed the score for Episode VII just as he did for all other previous Episodes. The score came out the very same day as the movie and hence it is about time that we review this score on its own merits and not just in conjunction with the movie’s imagery. To get the main comment out of the way right at the start: I like this score that however is far from perfect.  Continue reading “The Force Awakens score review (Spoiler-free!)”
