My Star Wars Moment #2: ‘The Revenge of the Sith’

On May 19th 2005 The Revenge of the Sith was released. Running at a 140 minutes, this film showed us Anakin’s final few steps to the Dark Side while breaking fan-hearts all across the world. It also featured one of the best lightsaber fights in all of Star Wars: the duel between Anakin and Obi-Wan!

For today’s My Star Wars Moment we have one fan’s personal memories of the day the (then) last Star Wars film came out. Anakin Skyguy is an avid SW role-player on Tumblr with a plethora of characters. He is also part of The Chosen Ones with whom I had a lovely podcast not too long ago.

‘May 19th 2005

It was a day I would never forget. Not only was it the last day of school in 9th grade, and also my 16th birthday in a few days on the 22nd. But I was looking forward to ‘Star Wars Episode III: The Revenge of the Sith’ that day. It was awesome to see something Star Wars on the front page of the news paper that whole week. Also on the front page was a countdown to the movie release. The build up to this movie was just an incredible thing to be a fan through, I was thinking at the time, this would be the last time it would ever happen and was enjoying everything while I could. I cut out the news paper articles, watched all the Tv ads and talked Star Wars with my friends at school. In English class we even watched Attack of the Clones. After school, I was told we were going to head to the Drive-In in the next town to see it. So we got a bunch of food and drinks to take with us. I was able to get one of my friends to come with us and we both brought our early costumes. I had a black sith robe with a Vader FX lightsaber, and he brought his brown jedi robe with Obi Wan FX lightsaber. We had fun going through the drive-in fighting each other and having people taking our pictures. While we were fighting, a bunch of kids came running over. It had to be about 20 of them, all with those 5.00 plastic lightsabers ran over and started to attack us. We held our own but in the end, we got some bruises. As the sun went down the movie started and seen the fanfare and heard the crowed cheering and clapped as the intro and music started. Star Wars was something me and my dad always bonded over and we still do. He brought me into Star Wars when I was very young. He grew up with the Original Trilogy and I grew up with the Prequels and both love every movie. I was just amazed watching everything in this movie. I could not wait to see Anakin go to the dark side, I could not wait to see Order 66 and the formation of the Galactic Empire. To this day, Revenge of the Sith is still my all time favorite movie. At the very end of the movie when it was over, it was sad cause it was the last Star Wars movie. What was funny during the movie, after Anakin became burnt leather bacon, I looked over to my sister, who had such a HUGE crush on Anakin, she was crying like a baby, she knew what was going top happen, but clearly was not ready to see it. When we got home, we talked about the movie even more, about what we loved about it and had to have talked more than 2 hours. That was the night I created my Clone Trooper OC Commander Kane.’

Isn’t great how vivid such memories still are? And let’s hope the release of The Force Awakens this year will create equally amazing memories!
